Store Status
  • The Anderson Island General Store and Cafe is closed indefinitely, with no date for reopening.
  • The property is owned by Jeff Gillette, who owned and ran the store from 1978 to 2008.
  • The store was sold to Barbara Lake in 2008. When she closed the business on 1/31/2026, it reverted back to Mr. Gillette.
  • Mr. Gillette does not wish to reopen the store on his own, and is accepting proposals from parties interested in restarting it.

Fuel
Grocery Delivery For Those in Need:
  • Emergency Food Network - Mandrake Fern Holmquist. Local food delivery service for those in need. Delivers food boxes with staples, meats, fresh fruits and vegitables. Click link above to sign up or call 253-290-7172. Note: When you try to sign up, a message will say that they are not accepting new participants. Ignore this message and sign up anyway as they have opened up space for islanders and you will be accepted.
  • The Anderson Island Food Bank is run by Linda Haglund at 253-303-9346. Call Linda first, then stop by her house to pick up food at no charge. She has a large supply of non-perishable food.
  • Transportation Services: Transportation to medical appointments and grocery shopping for low-income seniors and people with disabilities. Call Bonnie Bernard - (425) 591-5227.
  • Senior Friends. Pat Jenkins (Lutheran Community Services), 253-722-5682. Companionship and Transportation for errands.

  • Amazon Grocery - Wide selection of groceries and household items with delivery options.
  • Walmart Grocery - Online grocery shopping with pickup and delivery services.
Meal Delivery Pierce County (assistance for seniors):
  • Visit www.piercecountywa.gov/489/Home-Delivered-Meals.
  • The contact number for the Pierce County Aging and Disability Resource Center 253-798-4600, or email at adrc@piercecountywa.gov. This contact also can connect you with Mom's Meals as well as with Volunteer Chore Services for assistance with grocery shopping.
  • Other options include Catholic Community Services at 253-502-2741 on the web at ccsww.org.
By Mail (general public): Takeout:
  • Take-out orders are available for pickup from the Lakeshore Restaurant. NO DELIVERY.

Post Office
  • The Anderson Island Post Office is closed permanently. (It was the last "contract post office" in Washington and will likely never reopen.)
  • Local mail delivery is not impacted and will continue normally.
  • Full services are available at the post offices in Steilacoom or DuPont.
  • Stamps and package postage may be ordered online at www.usps.com.
  • Letters and small packages may be mailed from your home mailbox - raise the red flag for pickup.
Cafe
  • The Anderson Island Cafe is closed indefinitely.
  • The Rivera Lakeshore Restaurant is open with expanded hours. (253) 884-3344.
    Mon-Thur noon-9pm, Fri 3-10pm, Sat 9am-8pm, Sun 9am-8pm
    Lunch now available Mon-Thur noon-3, serving sandwiches, soup, pizza and fountain drinks.
Trash Bags
  • The county has temporarily removed the dumpster by the ferry. It should return by 2/20.
  • Existing trash bags may be taken to the Transfer Station at no charge.
  • Once the dumpster is returned, trash bags can be purchased at White's Construction, 10919 Yoman Rd, Mon-Fri 7:30am-3pm.
  • The county plans to install trash bag vending machines at the dumpster within the next few months.
  • Trash may be taken to the Anderson Island Transfer Station, 9607 Steffenson Rd, Sunday 10am-2pm, Monday 1pm-5pm. There is a disposal fee.
Rides, Transportation
  • Transportation Services - Transportation to medical appointments and grocery shopping for low-income seniors and people with disabilities.
    Call Bonnie Bernard - (425) 591-5227, Monday-Friday 9am-2pm. Bonnie and her drivers can pick up prescriptions and groceries. This is funded by Catholic Community Services.

Video Rentals
  • DVDs are available from the Pierce County Library at ALCC every Wednesday from 11am-2pm.
  • A library card is required to check out all materials, including DVDs. There is no charge for the card.
Gifts, AI Merchandise
  • Gifts, toys, and Anderson Island apparel and merchandise are available from the Anderson Island Historical Society Gift Shop.
